Mount Vernon Firefighters Now Have Their Own Training Facility

broken image

A construction company based in Mount Vernon, New York, PCI Industries Corp. has worked on multiple projects for NYC and NYS Departments of Transportation. In addition to repairing highways, bridges and paving parking lots, PCI Industries Corp. contributed to the new Mt. Vernon Fire Department training facility, and received a commendation from the city for its donation.

For the first time in 40 years, Mount Vernon firefighters have their own training area. Located at the Lincoln Avenue firehouse, the facility allows Mount Vernon firefighters to practice skills such as raising ladders and ventilating a roof during a fire. Before the new facility was finished, the town’s firefighters traveled to Valhalla to train at the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services.

The new facility offers several advantages, including allowing Mount Vernon firefighters to complete training exercises using their own fire-fighting equipment so they are better prepared to respond rapidly in a fire emergency. Another benefit of the training facility is that new recruits can receive training at anytime, rather than waiting for the county sessions that are held only twice per year.
